  1. Match the account and case

    Resolve the approved customer identifiers and existing activity or case. Keep ambiguous matches out of the write path.

  2. Gather the operational evidence

    Collect the verified event, shipment reference and responsible operations contact. Separate a reported issue from a confirmed outcome.

  3. Prepare the activity

    Propose an owner, next action and supporting context using mapped Dataverse fields. Respect any approval required for reassignment or status changes.

Microsoft documents the Dataverse Web API as an OData v4 interface for data and metadata operations. For the selected Dynamics CRM application, use the environment’s actual table, column and relationship definitions rather than assuming labels in the screen are API names.

Dataverse uses OAuth with Microsoft Entra ID. A server-to-server design can use an application user linked to an app registration and assigned security roles. Authentication alone is not authorization to all customer records; the configured role and business rules determine what can be accessed and changed.

No. This guide targets CRM use in Sales or Customer Service. Other Dynamics applications need their own API and record-model assessment.

Can custom Dataverse tables be included?

Potentially, after schema, permissions, relationships and business rules are reviewed. A custom table is not automatically supported because the standard API exists.

Can the operator work without a user’s password?

Microsoft documents application-based authentication. The approved identity, credential method and security roles must be configured by the responsible administrator.

What is a sensible first scope?

One activity or case handoff, with a known account-matching rule and explicit approval boundaries, is easier to validate than unrestricted CRM synchronization.
