Where integration creates value
A customer relationship does not end when an opportunity is created. A pricing clarification, shipment exception or service request can require context from several teams. Repeatedly copying those details into Dynamics creates delays and can overwrite a more recent update.
The proposed Shipflow workflow connects an operational request to the appropriate Dynamics 365 CRM record. It prepares or performs the authorized action with its evidence, while preserving ownership and status rules. This page concerns CRM applications; Dynamics 365 Finance, Supply Chain Management and Business Central require separate interface scoping.
Workflow opportunities

Illustrative workflow: a shipment issue requires the account team to act, and the relevant customer context is maintained in Dynamics 365.
Resolve the approved customer identifiers and existing activity or case. Keep ambiguous matches out of the write path.
Collect the verified event, shipment reference and responsible operations contact. Separate a reported issue from a confirmed outcome.
Propose an owner, next action and supporting context using mapped Dataverse fields. Respect any approval required for reassignment or status changes.
Verify the record and its relationships. If another user changed the record during processing, reconcile that change before applying stale information.
Connection approach
Microsoft documents the Dataverse Web API as an OData v4 interface for data and metadata operations. For the selected Dynamics CRM application, use the environment’s actual table, column and relationship definitions rather than assuming labels in the screen are API names.
Dataverse uses OAuth with Microsoft Entra ID. A server-to-server design can use an application user linked to an app registration and assigned security roles. Authentication alone is not authorization to all customer records; the configured role and business rules determine what can be accessed and changed.
Setup requirements
Confirm Sales or Customer Service, environment URL, tenant, administrator and test environment.
Define the application user, credential management, security roles and the minimum record access needed.
Agree table and column names, option values, lookups, owners and any custom business rules.
Test concurrent edits, missing lookups, rejected status transitions, service limits and expired credentials.
Control and rollout
Do not widen permissions simply because a lookup fails. Route an inaccessible or unresolved record to its owner.
Check for intervening edits before submitting a prepared change. Avoid undoing the account team’s more recent decision.
Updating an activity does not authorize changing a transport order or sending a new customer commitment.
Common questions
No. This guide targets CRM use in Sales or Customer Service. Other Dynamics applications need their own API and record-model assessment.
Potentially, after schema, permissions, relationships and business rules are reviewed. A custom table is not automatically supported because the standard API exists.
Microsoft documents application-based authentication. The approved identity, credential method and security roles must be configured by the responsible administrator.
One activity or case handoff, with a known account-matching rule and explicit approval boundaries, is easier to validate than unrestricted CRM synchronization.
